We’re excited to announce that Gracie H. Sanchez, RDN, LD, CLT, INFCP, will be joining the Root team! Gracie will begin seeing clients in February, and we’re lucky to welcome such a talented dietitian. She has a special interest and background in hormone balancing, gut health, and thyroid!
Gracie loves to visit farmers markets, create amazing recipes and teach her kids and husband about the importance of good tasting food! She lives in Texas and is fluent in Spanish and English.
We asked Gracie a few questions:
Why did you become a dietitian?
When I was a sophomore in college, I learned that my grandmothers battle with Type 2 Diabetes could have been prevented. So, I decided I wanted to learn more about food and how it relates to preventative health care & chronic illness.
How do you work with clients?
I approach working with clients with a “once size doesn’t fit all” mentality! I love looking at what clients have done & where they are now. After getting to know them, my goal is to help them understand how the body works and organize & prioritize their care for the long term through a personalized journey.
What are your passions?
I love seeing women thrive when it comes to health and wellness. I believe when women thrive in that way, the whole family does too! I am also passionate about helping those who may have been misunderstood & misdiagnosed finally understand the why and how to holistic healthcare and eventually find their root causes and build a great foundation to health.
What are your special areas of interest as a dietitian?
Hormone balancing (such as in irregular cycles, PMS, anxiety, depression & acne) are personal for me as I never knew my own issues with SIBO could have ever contributed to imbalanced hormones until I dug further. Gut health is vital! Lastly, autoimmune conditions such as RA and Hashimoto’s are definitely special areas of interest. I would also say, I love to visit the farmers markets, create amazing recipes & teach my kids & husband about the importance of good tasting food!
Why did you decide to join Root Functional Medicine?
Joining Root Functional Medicine was such an easy decision for me! It stands out to me because they are passionate about food as medicine & personalized healthcare that lead to successful outcomes. Overall, I see a great quality of life and longevity for each of their clients while focusing on food. Blue Zones here we come!
What is your favorite food?
I will hunt down a farmers market or grocery store for fresh figs & kohlrabi when in season! Also, a Colombian fermented dairy drink called kumis, is also a favorite! I recently found a dairy farm that makes it somewhat similar and it is safe to say we are frequent visitors.
What is a health tip that you personally do?
I truly enjoy my insight timer app for mediation/prayer and 4-7-8 breathing technique before meals. These are quite effective at bringing about a state of deep relaxation and balance but most importantly taking you away from the fight-or-flight mode during a busy day. It will improve digestion, reduce stress and promote mindfulness at meal times.
What’s the best part of your job?
I love when we are able to discover root causes to ailments. It is more confirmation that there is a reason to their health issues. It’s also always rewarding to walk along side the client and see the food freedom that occurs when health is achieved!
